CHEW MIGRATION TO NJ: Attracted by low-cost land and the religious freedom for Quakers that William Penn offered in the West Jersey territory that Penn purchased from Lord Berkeley in 1675, Richard and Mary migrated from Flushing, Long Island, to what is now Blackwood, NJ, with their sons Nathaniel and John aboiut 1697.

ACREAGE: Whereas on Long Island, their small farm occupied under 20 acres, they eventually owned over 700 acres along Big Timber Creek and Great Mantua Creek in Gloucester County, NJ.
