Capt Richard J. McHale was shot to death Oct. 24, 1935 while on duty in the station house as commanding officer of the New York City 109th Precinct.
About 8:15 p.m., a patrolman dissatisfied over being placed on reserve duty by a police surgeon shot the commmander. Captain Richard died shortly after arriving at a hospital. Another patrolman shot and killed the aassailant..
